Leo Club of BHS
After months of planning and preparation the dream became a reality. The installation ceremony of the Belvidere High School LEO Club on February 4, 2009 was a huge success. The LEO Club was sponsored by the Belvidere and Harmony Lions Clubs with cooperation from Ms. Judy Black, student advisor, and Joseph Flynn, vice principal of the high school. The newly formed LEO Club currently has a membership of 19 Belvidere High School students and hopes to inspire more students to partake in the virtues of Lionism.
The formation of the LEO Club was spearheaded by Belvidere Lions Club member Bradford R. Day. Combining efforts with the Harmony Lions Club, the two clubs proudly presented the Belvidere High School LEO Club with its charter, banner and announcement of a scholarship. The night’s activities were attended by over 80 guests at the High School cafeteria and dinner was prepared by the school’s home economics department. A video presentation entitled “Bring Learning to Life” was shown followed by the new members taking the oath of membership and the Leo Clubs President Beth Verile accepting the certificate of organization. Attending the ceremony was Tony Abano, Lions District 16-D Governor and Bob Brandt, Region One Chairperson.
The formation of this Leo Club at this Northwest New Jersey High School allows the students of Belvidere High School the opportunity to join forces with over 5700 Leo Clubs in 139 countries. Both the Belvidere Lions Club and the Harmony Lions Club extend their full support to this endeavor and warmly welcome this group of young adults to the benefits of being a Lions Club Member. The Leo motto is leadership, experience, opportunity and our mission as sponsoring clubs is to provide the youth of the world an opportunity for development and contribution, individually and collectively as responsible members of the local, national and international community.
We encourage all Belvidere High School students to become members and for other clubs to extend a hand in providing the youth of their communities the same opportunities. Meetings are held after school twice per month at the school and advisors from both clubs are asked to attend.
