About Us

The Belvidere Lions Club was chartered in 1952. Currently we have 18 active members who meet on the second and fourth Monday's, 6 PM at the Belvidere American Legion Hall. Our club, like all Lions Clubs, is dedicated to sight preservation. We have:

  • Contributed toward the purchase of an Eye Magnet Machine at Hackettstown Hospital for the removal of metal from the eye
  • Donated a glass eye to a child cancer victim
  • Presented scholarships to Katzenbach School for deaf children
  • Donated to Camp Marcella, summer camp for blind children
  • Provided eye exams and eye glasses to needy children
  • Donated a braille typewriter to blind author
  • Provided Video Reader to Warren County library to assist sight impaired readers
  • Contributed to the Delaware Valley eye bank to aid in cornea transplants

We also have provided other charities and services including:

  • Raised $28,000.00 toward the purchase of Country Gate Players Community Theater building
  • Provided flood relief to local victims of Delaware River flooding
  • Conduct an annual Halloween parade (ongoing since 1955)
  • Donated Christmas food baskets to needy families
  • Contributed toward Belvidere's sesquicentennial celebration
  • Conducted Jr. Olympics for local children
  • Organized soap box derbys
  • Awarded annual citizen of the year award for 21 consecutive years
  • Contributed annually to two High School scholarships
  • Provided a chair lift for local disabled citizens
  • Contributed to food drives for destitute residents of Southern West Virginia
  • Provided funds for Belvidere High School summer athletic camps
  • Contributed annually to local fire and ambulance services
  • Contributed half the amount needed to build “The Lion's Den” a children's playground at the Belvidere athletic complex
  • Contribute toward the “Lion's Classic”, Belvidere High School's Thanksgiving day rivalry football game against North Warren High School

To fund our charitable activities, we conduct three major fund raisers throughout the year. In January we hold an annual winter Chicken BBQ with all the trimmings of a summertime feast. In May we hold a $10,000.00 drawing, partnered with our neighboring Oxford Township Lions Club, and in September we conduct a “Ride with the Pride” motorcycle poker run. We proundly follow the motto of the International Lions Club...
